City Guide: Sydney, Australia

In October, I spent a magical week in Sydney, and I can’t wait for you to experience this fun city too.

Hotels:

If you’re looking for the most luxurious option in the city and don’t care about harbor views, The Capella is the one for you.

If you do want those iconic Opera House views- and trust me, there’s nothing like breakfast marveling at the architecture- then the Park Hyatt is the winner!

Of course, there are plenty of boutique and 4-star options as well.

Dining:

St Peter is a truly special experience. The artistry- frankly wizardry- they do with seafood is captivating and most importantly, delicious. Fish charcuterie?! Killer. They even use fish bone marrow to thicken the custard tart for dessert, and I swear it is divine.

For a Sydney classic, look no further than Mr. Wong. Dumplings and peking duck are on order; need I say more?

At Ester, you’ll find wood-fired cooking in a trendy, lively atmosphere akin to a wine bar. This feels like a true neighborhood gem.

For a power lunch, you’re heading to mimi’s. On a Friday at lunchtime, no table is without wine, martinis, and/or caviar bumps- most have all three. You’re overlooking Coogee Beach, and yes you’re paying a premium for it, but it’s vacation after all.

Another special spot is Bennelong. It’s in the Opera House, and they have a wonderful beverage program. If you can’t make a meal there, at least go for a drink and the views!

For bakeries, you’re heading to AP Bakery and Flour & Stone. I tried nearly all of their offerings (it’s a tough job, but someone has to do it), and you cannot go wrong.

If you love beaches, Sydney has some of the best spots, from the more touristy but iconic Bondi Beach to local coves accessed by boat.

I’d be remiss not to mention the incredible fashion scene in Australia, and Sydney has some excellent shopping and fashion-centric activities.

For art and architecture lovers, you must tour the Opera House, and there are some fantastic museums including displays of indigenous art.
